Cabot Explorers has been able to triple in size over the past five years thanks to our large team of volunteers. We're always on the lookout for new volunteers to join us, whether that's working regularly with our young people, occasionally instructing specific skills, or by supporting with central organisational and administration tasks.

Specific roles we're looking to fill can be found on our CanDoBristol profile, or you can read about the different volunteering routes available below.

To find out more about what we get up to and how you could get involved, contact us - volunteer@cabotexplorers.org.uk.

With an Explorer Unit

From fire lighting to first aid, canoeing to cooking, every week is different.

Explorer Scout Unit Teams support Explorer Scouts to push themselves, try new things, and gain #SkillsForLife.

We’re looking for volunteers to join one of our Explorer Units based across the North West of Bristol, helping to deliver a safe and exciting programme for the section. You’ll be joining an existing leadership team, who work together to share the responsibilities of running the Unit.

Whether you’ve been involved in Scouting previously, or are completely new to the movement, we will provide all the training and support you need to become a knowledgeable and confident leader.

Explorer Units meet weekly during term-time, as well as occasionally on weekends or during holidays. We support flexible volunteering, so a role with an Explorer Unit is possible whatever your schedule allows.

Volunteer

Behind the scenes

Supporting our Explorer Unit Teams are a set of volunteers who look after the behind the scenes tasks which keep Cabot Explorers running.

The Explorer Administration Team are responsible for a number of organisational and administrative areas including:

  • Supporting the process for moving Scouts on to Explorers
  • Welcoming new volunteers and supporting them through the induction process
  • Supporting volunteers with essential training and the checks required to work with young people
  • Looking after Explorer Scout membership records

Whatever your experience or availability, we'll be able to find a task that works around your other commitments.

The administration team role is individual: some tasks can be done online when time allows during the week, some involve meeting up with volunteers and potential volunteers in person. Whatever your preference, we're sure we'll be able to find a task that works for you!

Volunteer

With specific skills

Do you love to be in the mountains or out on the river? Or maybe you enjoy archery, or have another skill that you'd like to teach others?

Adventure is integral to the Explorer Scout programme and Explorer Units are always looking to offer adventurous activities to Explorers, giving them the chance to push themselves, take on new challenges, and refine their skills.

We're looking for volunteers with the appropriate skills (or the desire to obtain them) to join us as Skills Instructors and support the delivery of activities such as hill walking, climbing, kayaking, archery, and shooting in a safe way, in line with Scouting policy and national activity guidelines.

Adventurous activities are run throughout the year, dependent on Unit programmes and instructor availability, so this role is very flexible and can fit around existing commitments.
